Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. It’s a relatively small city compared to cities of the world, but huge as far as cities go in Saskatchewan. It’s the biggest in terms of population in the prairie province, but still only has about 250,000 people. I never thought of it as a cool or unique city when I was young, mostly just where we would go to shop and hit up the dentist.
One winter living there I had a change of opinion. I noticed a house, one that I’d driven by often and always liked, but never really stopped to admire fully. It’s on a fairly busy street and there isn’t much room for stopping. The house was white with a blue door, had a steep sloped roof and a kind of Bavarian style. I finally pulled over one day to take a good look at it, and that’s when I noticed the other houses around. The small boxy pink one across the road, the whimsical yellow house with weird curvy lines. That’s the day I decided maybe Saskatoon did have something to offer in terms of quirkiness. I set out to take photos of all the unique, cute, weird quirky houses I could find in Saskatoon. I decided to do this photo project on my Minolta film camera (mostly because I needed to practice using it).
Below are the photos I’ve taken so far (see if you can spot the ones I described above). It’s a good start, but there are a lot more unique and colourful houses to be found in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan!
P.S. If you live in one of these houses: Firstly, hi! You have a cool house. Secondly, if you don’t want your house pictured on here, I totally understand, just shoot me a message and I will take it down.
